We know that London is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK, but did you know it’s also the nation’s friskiest city?
In a recent poll by luxury lingerie set designers, Hunkemoller, they found that 43% of residents admitted to having more sex in the last 12 months compared with other cities across the UK.
The study of more than 2,000 Brits also learnt that more than nine million of us were having more sex than ever before over the past year, with one on ten (9%) revealing their sex life had become more exciting in that time frame.
But why exactly has London been crowned the sex capital of the UK?
More people – more options
Put simply, London has more people to choose from. With a population of over 9 million is it any wonder that people are having more sex? Especially compared with Manchester. With just over 2 million people living in the city, residents have had a less than steamy year, with almost half (43%) of respondents admitting to having less sex in the last 12 months.
It’s not just the vast numbers of people that puts London on top, but the number of people who classify themselves as ‘single’. According to recent data 44.1% of London’s adult population considers themselves single, and despite numerous lockdowns, single people tend to be more liberal than couples.
Greater dating distances
As city’s go, London is pretty big! And if you’re from West London dating someone from East London, there’s a commute time of over an hour. This often makes the suggestion of staying over after a date more appealing than having to catch the night bus across the city.
The rise of casual relationships
Living and working in London can make forming significant relationships hard, which makes casual relationships and casual sex more prevalent. However, if you’re a hopeless romantic, things maybe turning around. The pandemic left many people re-evaluating their life choices and realising that sharing memories with a special someone is something they’re now looking for.
London has long been heralded as a liberal city, behind Oxford, Brighton and Hove, and Bath, so it makes sense that the capital is just as liberal between the sheets. Like many capital cities around the world, London has a lot going on, with a wine and dine culture at its heart, which can often culminate in a night of passion.
Ultimately though, London is a city free of judgement. A place you can let loose and embrace the real you.
