What To Do When You’re On The Brink Of Burnout

To some, burnout can seem like the trending work of the time – but it’s not. It’s really not. It’s a very serious ailment that seems to be hitting more and more people these days. We quite often tend to associate burnout with high-flying jobs and people that have a lot of responsibility – or a lot to do! And while that is the case, that doesn’t make it part of the job, or ‘cool’. Burnout can have serious consequences on your health. And so, you need to make sure that you’re doing everything you can to avoid burnout. Yet, it does appear that so many more people are on the brink of burnout these days, and that’s never going to be okay.

Instead, if you think that you might be suffering from burnout, or you’re about to become seriously ill with stress and exhaustion – then you need to do something about it. But what? This is often the issue. You know that you’re perhaps overworked, but you don’t know what to do about it. Even if you’re doing your workouts and you’re eating well, that’s not always enough. Sure, you may think that you’re looking after yourself, but if you’re feeling burnt out, you’re not. So here’s what you can do instead.

Slow Down

The very first thing that you might need to be able to do here, is to slow down in life. If you think that you’re about to suffer with burnout (or you already are), then you have to just take it easy. Don’t keep trying to do too much, don’t always be on the go. Let some of your responsibilities go and start to take your health more seriously. You will only ever get better if you commit to doing this.

Rest

The next thing that you’ll want to take a look at, is rest. Because really, you just can’t beat a bit of good old-fashioned rest. If you are always on the go, and you tend to take on too much, then you just need to make sure that you are able to get more rest. You need to take time each day to wind down and allow your mind and body to switch off. You also need to have a day of (or two, ideally) each week too. So you need to factor in real rest to your week and see what kind of a difference it can make.

Say No

Sometimes, you just have to be able to say no too. If you are easily taking on too much, especially from other people, and you’re only ever going to be hurting yourself. So, it’s time for you to say no!

Relax

And then, nothing can really beat a bit of old-fashioned relaxation! You need to stay away from your devices and unplug a bit more. Read, take a bath, go for a walk – try anything that will allow you to switch your mind off.

Try Something New

As much as most of the usual techniques will help you, you may find that you need to go one step further and try something new. It could be in the form of something such as VSAVI, or even talking to an expert. When you are able to have a conversation with a professional, you may be able to uncover the real reason for your exhaustion, and this can put you on the right track going forward.

Take A Break

The next thing that you might want to do is actually take a break from work. Sometimes, you can find that work is stressing you out far too much, and when that is the case, you really need to be able to do something about it. While rest can help, maybe a career break is much better for you? Sometimes, having that time out can give you perspective – and you may find that you need to make a change in order to be happier and healthier.

Change Your Lifestyle

Finally, you’re then going to want to make sure that you’re able to make adjustments to your lifestyle too. Sometimes, the reason why you’re almost at burnout is because of the lifestyle choices you have made, or the way you live your life in general. So, you have to accept that there needs to be changes made from time to time. Try to identify what they should be, and then work on bringing healthier practices into your life.
