Have you decided to make losing weight your resolution for 2018? If so, it is important that you go about it in the right way. In a lot of cases, people attempt to lose weight, and then they are disheartened when they don’t see the results they had hoped for. Often, this is because they have been following a supposed weight loss ‘rule’ – a ‘rule’ that is actually nonsense. With that in mind, read on to discover some of the most common weight loss myths debunked.

  • There is a single best diet – This is one of the biggest weight loss myths, and it can actually lead to people putting on weight rather than losing it. Just because your mate has lost weight following a certain diet does not mean that the same is going to happen for you. Everyone’s body is different, and you need to find something that is better suited to your body, your lifestyle, and your goals.
  • You shouldn’t use diet products – There seems to be this misconception that all diet products are bad for you and that you shouldn’t use them. Nevertheless, this could not be further from the truth. Yes, there are some products that aren’t good for you, yet there are some nutritious products that can really help you to reach your weight loss goals when they are used in the right way. A good example is Shake That Weight, which is similar to Exante with a better range. You get a wide range of foods to choose from, including porridge, soup, and noodles, as well as shakes too in a variety of flavours, including vanilla, hazelnut, strawberry, caramel, café latte and more. The key with weight loss products is to look at the ingredients to ensure they are healthy, and read reviews online too.
  • All calories are the same – A common solution when it comes to losing weight is cutting back on the calories you consume. However, it’s never as simple as this, unfortunately. You do need to consider the type of calories you do consume. After all, a handful of almonds may contain more calories than zero-calorie soda, however, they are much better for you. So, you do need to be sensible about the choices you need.
  • Fat makes you fat – This is a similar conception to the former point about calories. There are good fats and there are bad fats. You need to consume good fat in order to lose weight. Good fats include the likes of avocado and vegetable oils. Of course, they should only be consumed in moderation, but cutting out fat altogether is not the way to go. Equally, a junk food-based diet won’t do you any favours either.
  • Drinking water helps you to lose weight – This does not mean that you should stop drinking the recommended eight glass of water per day. Nonetheless, consuming this amount isn’t going to result in you shredding the pounds. However, it will help your weight loss journey for a number of reasons. Firstly, it stops you from being thirsty, and often people mistake thirst for hunger. Not only this, but it will help you to snack less while keeping you healthy and hydrated.
  • Foods labelled low fat are the better choice – As mentioned earlier, not all foods with fat in them are bad for you. However, this is not the only reason why ‘low fat’ foods aren’t necessarily better for you. In a lot of cases, the low levels of fat are substituted for enormous amounts of sugar. When considering a low fat product, you need to read the entire label to understand whether it is healthy or not.
  • Healthier foods are more expensive – Last but not least, a lot of people say that they cannot lose weight because it costs more money. A lot of people believe this because it is a myth that is spread around regularly online. But you simply need to be careful regarding your food choices. For example, choose frozen vegetables over fresh veg, or go for cheaper cuts of meat. You can also make meals in batches and freeze them.

Hopefully, you now have a clearer mindset for your weight loss journey ahead. If you follow the advice that has been provided in this article and you avoid some of the most common weight loss myths, you should find it a lot easier to reach your goals.
