Christmas is fast approaching, and this year it appears to have come a lot earlier than usual. Some households have already put up their Christmas decorations, stocked up on presents and are now ready to relax and simply enjoy the holidays. However, if you’re not one of them don’t panic, there’s still plenty of time to get Christmas ready.
Men shop later than women but end up spending more
It’s a well-known fact that many men leave their Christmas shopping until the last minute. However, did you know they actually end up spending more than women? Whether this is linked to them leaving it until later, so they miss out on promotions, or whether it’s because they buy more luxurious gifts, is unknown.
In 2014, research showed that men are more than happy to spend over £500, whereas women preferred to spend £250. It also showed men were more likely to buy one large extravagant gift, whereas women preferred to buy several gifts for their loved ones.
Christmas shopping has started earlier than ever this year
Even men are getting in on the early Christmas shopping act this year. Top jeweller Goldsmith, has revealed some surprising statistics, including the fact many started their shopping in September.
The research also revealed that Millennials are the ones most likely to shop early, with most opting to start in late October. Interestingly, 1 in 5 people have stated they plan on spending at least £500 on gifts this year. There also appears to be a north and south divide, with Northerners planning to spend the most on gifts this year.
So, when is the right time to start? Well, the earlier you start shopping, the less stressful it’s going to be. It also gives you time to spread the cost of Christmas, rather than having to pay out a massive lump sum in December. If you start early, it gives you chance to also find the perfect giftand take advantage of any sales which may crop up along the way.
As you can see, men may lag behind women when it comes to starting their Christmas shopping. However, when it comes to spending, they’re more likely to flash the cash on more luxurious gifts. Overall, if you haven’t yet started your Christmas gift shopping, now is definitely the time to start.
