So nice to be able to hear your thoughts on the editorials. I agree the neck is a bit intense! Everyone seems to be intimidated by it…..I really dig the accessories in the picture..The neck is freakishly long though! I don’t know how its even possible!
Love most of the pics. The givenchi pants in the 1st photo are stuff of my dreams. As for the lady with the long neck, she is a part of a whole tribe of people that wear those. I watched a documentary on them once and the sad part is that they cant take them off even if they wanted to beucase their neck muscles dont get used and if the rings are taken off their necks wont eb able to hold their heads up.
YES to everything but the last image. I wonder what would happen if someone were to remove the rings from that man’s neck, would his head just topple over and hang limp and unusable!?
I am disturbed and impressed by the image all at the same time. I’m going to have to watch this documentary that “Anastassia” saw to see how and why these necks are formed.
i believe they are done from a very young age, so the neck streches with the more rings put on, and yes if they are removed the neck of the person will break.
Yes! Except for the neck. I read somewhere (warning: possible questionable source) that whatever culture does that only continues to do it for tourism, and that the women who do it are literally on display as attractions. So no. But otherwise yes! Very arresting looks!
In relation to the comment asking about what would happen to the man’s neck.
yes, if he has rings on for long enough – when removed their necks do indeed have a tendency to snap.
And that white margiela mask and nude suit is perhaps one of my favorite editorial shots this year
that entire spread was stunning.
the 2nd last image is a picture of a Kayan tribe lady in their traditional costume. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayan_%28Burma%29 the culture part talks about why they wear the neck rings.:)
apparently they start it when they’re really young and just keep adding a ring over a certain period and by that age they’re that long! sound too painful to me!
i think i’ll just stick to chockers…
yes to all…..as for the neck rings though, i dont see how it is any different to the torturous methods people go through in the modern society in the name of beauty, ie corsets, nips and tucks etc
Total yes – I love when fashion’s artistic personality comes out to play.
Very striking and unique!
Some yesses, some nos….but mostly,
is that shelly duva in the last picturel?!?
i say yes to shelley duval.
Emphatic YES!
Big fat yes, except to the woman with the elongated neck. I feel so sorry for her.
Yes to the white jacket and nude body suit, Yes to the filigree mask, fine but not fantastic to the others.
YES! But I agree with KD, perhaps ‘no’ to the elongated neck, although I love the neckpieces…a shorter version perhaps?
xx
such strong picturess!!

adore everything except the last pic, and maybe if the 2nd last pic’s guy had a normal length neck…

Yes to all! Especially the white lace. I would wear that all day.

The boobs above the Margiela picture are so intense, I can’t stop staring.
YES and more please. haha

but they are very beautiful.
