Travel Bag
I was stressed about packing for an upcoming trip, especially with having to bring my laptop and several cameras and it occurred to me that since I won’t be packing any electronics into my suitcase (it always gets stolen at the airport) I needed one bag that could hold these things without the fuss. On previous trips I always carried my laptop in a bag, had a regular bag, and also had a separate camera bag. Sometimes if I felt like consolidating it all I’d get a big plastic shopping bag and throw them in on impulse…Between searching for a passport, tickets, and wandering around airports and train stations I started to get paranoid that I had left my camera somewhere.
The motivation for making the bag wasn’t only about needing something functional to carry all my important items but about having to confront the bleak “travel bag” section showcased at many stores (photo taken with iPhone)…. There was nothing wrong with any of these bags, I mean they could easily fit all my electronics and a little pet..Somehow spending the measley 24$ to buy one of these bags seemed like a huge waste of money…
Then the second motivation for designing the bag was solely based on materials. Hardware and leather.. There isn’t much you can do whilst designing bags unless you know what kind of hardware you’re going to use. I don’t like to design unless I have my hardware picked out. From there I can figure out how I want to configure these pieces together…. Zippers, zipper pulls, handles, chains, closures etc. Not even going to try and feed you some bs ‘inspiration’ story behind the bag. I have none.
The bag has three compartments, the middle one is for all my cameras and lenses (fits two large bodies and lenses) the one on the end is for my travel documents, and the one of the other end that doesn’t zip all the way down is for my laptop..
I just couldn’t resist lining the bag with pink metallic leather… This section is for tickets/passports/cards…

Other bags I’ve designed were minimal in detail but somehow depriving myself like that made me want to go the opposite direction for this bag.
Straps are also removable

The reason why I rather carry all my stuff in separate bags during travelling is because most travel bags are not fashionable enough. Yours is an exception. It is fashionable and by the looks of the compartments, it does scream practical
While I completely love that these are one of a kind….at some point, you know the rest of us want them, too. Do you think you’ll ever contract your designs out (I know, it sounds awful) for production?

You’re right – most functional bags are absolutely horrendous. This is one of my favorites from you – very well thought out and functional, but still very nice looking.

Love it! I especially like that the longer shoulder strap has metal instead of leather at the exact spot where bag thieves will literally slice the strap and tear the bag away from you. Ive had this happen to me before and that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw your bag. Genius!

OMFG I must have that bag! I absolutely love the compartments, and my parents, when we do travel, do not have to carry my multitude of electronics. On our trip to New Orleans (a 6 hour drive from Houston) I had my Nikon D90, my Coolpix S210, Laptop, wallet and my makeup train case! If I could have that bag, I would only need that and my train case and suitcase! Please, I don’t normally beg for things over the internet, but this bag is absolutely fabulous!

I love it and for being a travel bag it looks stylish. One thing is that the shape is still the travel bag rectangle. Its the optimal shape, however it reads to me ‘i’m an embellished laptop bag’. The straps are my favorite part.

I like seeing all the up-close details in bits and pieces and then the big reveal towards the end. It builds the anticipation. That bag is perfect for people like me with OCD. You can organize a wallet, a bag, a laptop bag, and a camera bag, but the ultimate struggle is how to consolidate/organize them all together. The best part is the removable straps. Cross body straps are essential for travel!

THEN I see this stunning travel bag. Extremely well done. I find it the perfect combination of sleek utility with just enough tasteful hardware to be stylish, and then pink metallic lining is the secret icing. So good! So impressed! I’m really inspired now to start making my own bags.. haven’t found anything I like since purchasing from the leather market in Florence. Sigh.. Italy.. please enjoy yourself.

I just returned from a trip and carrying my handbag and camera bag was a nightmare. I was so scared that I’d leave the camera bag somewhere, so this is perfect! Often practical stuff look hideous, and this is an exception

Questions: How heavy was it? Did you have trouble passing through metal detectors?
Suggestion: Maybe creating one with less metal and more shoulder padding in a stylish way would also be nice
I wouldn’t want to have a heavy bag to start with, because the laptop and camera gear are heavy on their own.
