Skin and Makeup Routine
This is a very accurate/truthful view of my makeup/skin routine. I’ve accumulated so many beauty products over the years but after all this time these are the only products I’ve remained loyal to- This post will just remind me to get rid of everything else, just feel so guilty throwing it all away. There were a handful of people who asked for a beauty post so here it is.

Most of you have probably seen all of this before..I think I’ve recommended certain products and I’m still using the same ones over and over again. I am completely loyal to this one brand of soy based moisturizer from Japan called Sana Nameraka Isoflavone Lotion. There are actually two kinds I use, one is like this thicker cream for when my skin is very dry but for everyday I use the lighter stuff. For years I’ve used very expensive creams (La Mer, for example) to cheaper ones like oil of Olay but this is my favorite so far. I like it because it moisturizes my skin without being greasy or too heavy. I also have a lot of their other products like make up remover and cleanser (the products with the japanese writing all by the same company Sana in the photo below). To the far left is my favorite hand lotion. I only started using this recently as my hands get dry very often, just from doing so many dishes and cleaning up from the food posts I do, the dish washer soap really dries out my skin. I use L’Occitane Hand Cream
, it’s incredibly thick and creamy.

My other favorite product are these Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains….Basically just the best exfoliating salt I’ve ever tried-I like that it’s just the grains and no creams involved- it makes for a very rough scrub on the skin. I only do it twice a week (max) I’m always tempted to exfoliate my skin every other day but I hear that’s bad for the skin, besides this little bottle isn’t cheap. Cetaphil is something I use every day and night to wash my face..I’m always running out of this stuff.

For eyes, I use shu uemura waterproof mascara, Yves Saint Laurent touche eclat (concealer)…and this generic eyeliner brand that I love from Duane Reade called
Fabuliner Felt Tip Liquid Eye Liner. Very easy to apply! I love the shu uemura mascara because it does not clump, and the touche eclat is great because it’s quite transparent on the skin. If I had the time and staff to apply fake eyelashes like Kim Kardashian every day I think I would- I love the look of really long eye lashes but I am so bad at applying them and they end up looking so fake.

Top 3 eye essentials:

For makeup I use this customized case with shadows and blushes…this is from Trish McEvoy, and Chanel Rouge Allure, shade #84 “Flamboyante”. Most of my eye shadows are matte, I don’t like really sparkly shades because it just looks unnatural. I’ve posted this makeup case before and nothing has changed, been using it for about 4-5 years now and it’s the easiest thing for me because everything is in one place. I forgot to include the image of this lipstain that I recommend, it’s from Duane Reade but it’s something I use 10x more often than the chanel lipstick (don’t like the taste or look of lipstick sometimes): Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain
. The color I use is “gothic”. Again, I’ve used expensive-cheap lipstain products before and this is my favorite so far. The best part is the balm included on the other side of the stick (kind of like chapstick). I apply the balm right after the lip stain goes on to keep my lips from drying out. About 3 years ago I remember I’d always do this manually, like I’d apply lip stain and then I’d need to the apply chapstick separately because the stain would dry out my lips. Love smart products like this that consolidate a process.

..For a light scent I use diptyque solid perfumes, my favorite scent is definitely Philosykos.

I saved my favorite thing for last…I work at the studio for long hours, and because there are so many machines, I have to keep this space very very dry. Dry spaces are great for machines but so bad for the skin. My skin is naturally dry, so once a week I use this moisturizing face mask for about 30 minutes before I go to sleep. It makes my skin feel amazing- like I got a mini facial, I highly recommend it. You don’t even need to wash it off, just dab your face with a warm towel after you’re done. It’s from the same japanese lotion brand. Sana By Noevir Nameraka Honpo Soy Milk Face Moisturizing Mask. I think the pack is kind of expensive considering there are only four…but seriously…it’s done wonders for my skin.

**This is unrelated to this post, but I am getting so many e-mails and comments about the candle sticks from the baguette post I did a while ago. I cannot find the exact one I have but I did find a very similar one on Amazon- You can see the link on my sidebar but here is the direct link.

ooh I can’t wait to try Sana products
ah, i love beauty posts! these are some great recommendations, i want to try the shu mascara. right now i’m using tart 4 day lash stain and it’s pretty good – doesn’t clump and holds a curl pretty well.
have you ever had lash extensions? i’m thinking about trying them out, terribly expensive and high maintenance but i’m just so curious…
Ooh, the Sana lotion/products sounds great, might try to find some…Loved this post! Might try the BB exfoliating grains too…
xx
do you recommend anything good for shampoo/conditioner? I know it depends on hair type but at least a good brand would set me in the right direction.

I also love the BB buffing grains! They’re crack for my skin.
I asked about the candle sticks when you made the baguette post and I think I found the same brand that you have.
If anyone’s interested..

I’ve recently started using the Sana soy skin foaming cleanser. Quite an interesting face wash. Makes my face feel as if its suuper clean yet strangely supple. So far I like!
I was wondering what is the difference between the 2nd bottle and the 4th bottle from the left? (the Soy products) I’ve seen them before but I can’t tell which is for what. And which one goes on first. And do you use the creme everyday as well?
Sorry for so many questions!
Thank you for sharing!!
Cetaphil is brilliant as always!
I tried the Bobbi Brown Buffing Grains because of your advice, HUGE MISTAKE. They aren’t very rough, you must have very sensitive skin. I prefer St.Ives Apricot Scrub.
This has to be one of the best beauty routines ever – love YSL’s eyeliner, it’s amazing!

I’m in desperate need of a good mask that doesn’t irritate or dry my face. So l’ll check the Noevir Nameraka Honpo Soy Milk Face Moisturizing Mask, thanks.
i am a huge MAC fan but a make up artist told me that Bobbi brown is even better. it is like more professional make up. i do understand your exfoliation urge! i wonder, is it about the make up or is it about the routine? i love the routine because i can see the change and it makes me feel prettier! so a perfect routine can be totally relaxing and it just makes you feel good
Have you thought of getting lash extensions?
Always love everything on this blog but haven’t commented in awhile. I too use those masks and love them. I think you just might enjoy this hilarious photo of me wearing one: http://fashionintel.tumblr.com/post/5682605710
I looove the fabu liner. I found that at a Walgreens a year ago for $1.99. Figured it would be crap but was a little low on cash at the time. It is incredible. I use it daily and it usually takes 3-4 months to even begin to dry out a little. Goes on completely smooth–makes liquid liner the easiest thing in the world!
I just ordered some of those face masks from amazon
I love the hand cream too! It reminds me of childhood!
@fashionintel
That was me last night! Incredible.
Thanks…trying several products as soon as they arrive! Happy June to you!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your beauty routine. It gave me so many tips, especially since I am still developing a steady routine of my own. I also like that you have a simple and basic routine, not something complicated and impossible.
I looooooooove fabuliner! I bought one 4 years ago and it still works (I dip it in water when it starts to dry out). As always, wonderful posts! I was wondering, what kind of sunblock do you use?
I’m looking for the Sana products. But I don’t find. Could you help me ? In what stores in London or New York can I find the products ?
Thank you very much !
@Olivia you have to order it from amazon.
i used to work for bobbi brown, and i can tell you for certain those grains are just ground up aduki/adzuki beans. it’s great you’ve they’ve been effective for you, but if you’re ever in a pinch or running low on cash you can save yourself money by just grinding them up in a blender or coffee grinder
luxirare-
I will definitely try the face masks. Thank you so much for this post. I wish you showed us more of your face though, that way everyone would know that you are pretty!
my beauty diary sheet masks are another great alternative if you want to try another brand. a box of 10 costs about $12. you can get them from sasa.com
I wonder if you’ve tried Fiberwig mascara? Excellent excellent excellent lengthening mascara!
I have to give the Sana moisturizer a try. I have been trying all sorts of facial washes and cleansers but still get that occasional pimple (or three..or one crazy big zonker). I reverted back to what I used in college:good old Ivory soap! No zits so far
Can’t not use moisturizers, though. Rotating Origins A Perfect World, Fructis Antioxidant and Body Shop’s Wise Woman. My eyeliner costs all of $1 from ELF–and I have been increasingly buying make up from them (their Taklon make-up brushes are terrific)…wish they’d come up with their version of She-Laq (I have a bad habit of unknowingly rubbing my eyes when I am tired).
I’m also very loyal when I find a good product because my skin gets oily with blemishes very fast if I use a wrong product.
I never tried the sana products, and although I should stick to my products, eh, I’m tempted.
to more beauty posts please.
this one made me go out and buy almost the entire sana product range! and i think they’re working!
@Luxirare : Thank you !
Where’ve you bought this gorgeous white porcelain-box with the faces?? It’s amazing! (the one with the soap?? or sponge?? in it)
