Parody
Call this outfit whatever you want. A laughable caricature of a washed up child performer, a drag queen attending a late night showing of SHOWGIRLS, a tangible/visual description of “a naive but desperate attention seeker”. This outfit is in no way surreptitious. Maybe this outfit is the total mockery of desperation, or maybe its a parody of fashion in general. (All of the clothes are my designs except for the colored fox fur jacket which is vintage.)
Better yet, I don’t know what it is, disregard all the psycho-babble. They’re just clothes, who cares? If there was a meteor shower tomorrow your Chanel bag isn’t going to save you.

YSL Tributes and Luscious cut out wedge

Or..just maybe I was subconsciously influenced by the 70’s Jackson 5. Little Michael Jackson = Mozart with a fro.

I realize the look I’ve presented above is not appropriate for any daily activity. To avoid looking like a sequined trash bin, keep the fur jacket “casual” and uber “effortless” by wearing it with the whole “ripped booty shorts + top” formula. Yes, I realize I look like I jumped out of the cobrasnake.

July 20th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
This was fashion: porn/inspiration/hotness/amazingness done LuxiRare style.
I love it – it does seem apt time to bring back the flare jeans from the bottom of my wardrobe – sometimes it's great just to try a new silhouette
Did you design those shoes with the elevated heel?
Those shorts are sexual also
July 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Amazing!
July 20th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
This is now my favorite Luxirare outfit post. Those pants! Fucking brilliant I tell you. Very inspiring. They sorta remind me of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. This is a good thing considering I'm obsessed with the movie and it's styling.
Anyways, I love that your style is so multi-faceted, but all distincly Luxirare..
July 20th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
I love the chain mail detail on the shorts. Your designs fascinate me.

Give us more info on the crazy platform shoes. Your design? Have you worn them out ever? So curious…
July 20th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Liz-
The shoes are by a brand called "luscious" but I actually picked them up from a stripper/punk store in downtown nyc. No not yet, I haven't worn my designs out but I'm looking forward to wearing the sequined bell bottoms because they are comfortable and somewhat flattering. I think it would be okay with a simple t shirt.
July 20th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
there's also a bit of parliment funkadelic in your look as well. space age funkiness all the way, baby.
July 20th, 2009 at 7:32 pm

you're so awesome. i don't even know how i can say that to make it sound as original as you are.
July 21st, 2009 at 2:09 am
my favorite is the vintage fur coat, what lovely color combos and the fact that it looks almost like a ball of fur sewn together makes it look even more fantastic. the second outfit is my favorite even though im a big fan of sequins! glad you got an inspiration from early jackson days. you're really creative!
July 21st, 2009 at 2:53 am

July 21st, 2009 at 6:43 am
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that you constantly push the boundaries of what's the norm.
Ji, what little we've seen of your face before, was beautiful. I think the censoring can sometimes be distracting although maybe you're going for the opposite by not focusing on what you look like.
I hope this doesn't come off as offensive. Anyway, this is a very very mind-blowing post as usual.
Much adoration,
Josh

July 21st, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Stunning. How do you find time to make these amazing clothes?
I like the last photo, the white of the face and the chair blending into the background.
July 21st, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Josh-
No offense taken at all. I just would rather not have random people recognize me on the street, even if not that many people read my blog, you never know…
Oh mylungs-
It actually doesn't take that long to construct clothing as long as you've got a library of patterns to work from, which I do have.
July 22nd, 2009 at 12:21 am
Luxirare,
I think what you wear are totally rocking. Those DIY short is so beautiful. Can you make me one? please??
Thanks love,

Uh, holy shit, I don't think there's ever been so much awesome in one post. I LOVE those fucking amazing sequin flared pants and HOLY CRAP THOSE SHORTS. Okay, need to go now to calm my palpitating heart.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:37 am
I think your style is incredibly unique and you are so talented. I mean this in the most non-offensive way possible – I am just so curious to know – do you wear your creations out in public? If so, do you wear them in the way that you display them on your blog or as separate pieces? What are people's reactions, if any?
I also love your cooking documentaries/recipes. They are absolutely brilliant.
July 22nd, 2009 at 9:06 am
I'm not going to gush anymore about how I love this/you because everyone has done it all before and we all know how I feel. It's a good thing you've blurred your face or I'd spend all my time in NYC trying to stalk you. haha!
July 22nd, 2009 at 9:30 am
do work!
also I have no idea how you can walk in the first pair of shoes…they are ridic insane.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:34 am
Julia-
Actually they are SUPERR COMFY…i know..surprising.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:12 am
I am always rendered speechless by your wardrobe. Girl, the cobrasnake crew wish they had just an ounce of your insane style. Those multicoloured flares are mind-blowing and those denim shorts are anything but normal. That chain mail adds that extra ARGGAHRGAHR to the look. And paired with the lace?? And the intergalactic perspex I-don't-know-what heels???? Your style absolutely rocks. Congrats on the Sunday Times magazine mention. Totally deserved
xoxo
July 22nd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
I'm simply stunned by your talent. You wrote to mylungs that it doesn't take long to construct clothing if you have a library of patterns- you are so modest! I'm in apparel design school right now and so I know the work that goes into such impeccable seam-work, the hours of time for the hand beading etc. Most of your clothes seem to have some element of hand work which is definitely a time commitment. I'm always looking at hand-made stuff online and i've never seen the quality of work that you put forward. You are incredibly creative- really your designs are so fresh and inspiring to me! I will not be surprised if someday everyone recognizes your face!
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:05 pm
That coat is vintage? It looks exactly like a Pam Hogg coat I have a picture of somewhere. You're a lucky charm when it comes to finding clothes, I think.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:13 pm
RAZZLE DAZZLE!!!
but the pixelated faces are giving me the willies.
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Whatever, Ji! I think you and I both know that whatever I got at the CDG store isn't as half as awesome as sequined bell bottoms. Let's keep it real.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:50 am
Like everyone else LOVE LOVE LOVE the chain mail shorts. They are the absolute business. Your posts are amazing, Sometimes I HATE your outfits but i love that i can hate them haha. The pixelated face gives me the willies too btw. I'm sure you could make an effing amazing mask or something. Photoshop pixelation does not do your work justice..!
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:56 am
why aren't you wearing those outfits?? I would totally be wearing such pieces especially the short the jacket and the pants..
maybe not the shoes..
breathtaking like always
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:28 am
there is nothing i could say that hasn't already been said…but your work is truly amazing in terms of detailing….i'm studying textile design and really appreciate that handmade aspect of your work, especially that you manage to make them look so contemporary!
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:20 pm
