Make Shoes

At the moment I am spending a lot of time figuring out the process of making shoes. I was told I needed this machine which I recently acquired. I love shoes and the things that designers come up with, but there is always one little detail I wish I could change/improve. So I’m now determined to make the “perfect” shoes for myself. This process is a huge challenge for me, but as it is always true with everything in life, with a will there is always a way.

Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!! Learning to make shoes will be an amazing addition to your repertoire. I wish I had the tools/resources to try this too!
Wow that’s amazing. I’ve always wondered what the sewing machine for shoes looked like. So any idea yet what the “perfect” shoe you have in mind looks like?
The first set of shoes I make will be very gratuitous and personal, So I’ll mostly be thinking about what I look for in shoes which is a super sculpted wedge/ or platform heel that is comfortable. I am still thinking about embellishments and what the shape will be like….We’ll have to see, I’m still barely understanding the basics.
sounds like fun
That sounds seriously complicated. Is there like a particular course/study your taking to learn or is it purely self study? I have to agree with stylefyles, If I had the resources I’d totally make my own shoes.
Self-study. I think I can do it, I may fail miserably…but we’ll see…
wow, i’ve always wanted to make a pair of shoes for myself but i’ve never acted on it.
i hope you make some really cool shoes, it would be a fantastic insight.
good luck!
you’re conviction and determination is so impressive. and your access to resources and tools is incredible! are your food and fashion utensils expensive?
I would sell a kidney for this machine, it’s fucking amazing…
YOU ARE SO FREAKING LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe i could get a loan
You will not fail, as usual you will come out on top with the perfect concept and execution.
I know where i live there are courses for shoe design and construction. Very interesting
i cannot wait to see what you produce!
where will you source your materials?

Good luck! New frontiers for Luxirare to explore, woot!
(My selfish wish is that one day you will expand to menswear and because it’s Luxirare I die in awe)
IS THERE WHERE MCQUEEN GOT HIS SHOE DESIGN INSPIRATION FROM?! Because it totally strangely reminds me of it. Ugh, I can’t wait for the day that a pair of Luxirares droppppps. Next you’ll have to make me some exclusive sneakers. That should be easier than a heel, right? :p
That is amazing. I cannot wait to see what you come up with. And an incredible challenge that i imagine will pay off hugely.
It’s very reductive–loving what’s out there but always feeling like you want to change/improve one little thing. I understand the sentiment–I’m sewing/altering and changing garments through styling, and i never thought i’d sew (poorly)!
You should make your own version of the new McQueen amazements.
omg I just read my comment and it makes no sense….do you see how excited this shoe making business has gotten me girl?!
What type of machine is this? Is it for the welt? I took a class in brooklyn on how to make shoes…finished everything but the sole (was taken to a cobbler to finish). Impressive. I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Are you making your own last, too?
i really cant wait to see what you can make. It’s luxirare so nothing bad will come out of it, dont worrry.
And i have the same thinking! I always want to take something out of a design, or add something.
Currently working on clothes though. I thought about shoes too. But it’d be far far too expensive to get all the right equipments and materials and time consuming to learn how to actually make wearable shoes.
I remember i used to make bathroom slippers using drawing board and cotton wool.
I love machines/tools/hardware etc especially if they’re antique yet still functioning. I found a sock maker in an old shed once and I’m regretting that I didn’t find a way to take it even though it was very large and heavy. This one is very cool – is it brand new?
I am curious not only about your design for the shoes but how you will craft the sole. Will you go glass, a bed of screws, poured resin??
I am actually kind of worried about the sole part….I have no idea. It seems to be one of the more challenging parts.
Can’t wait to see the shoes!!
- Does said machine have a name (also where did you buy it?)!? Started making my own shoes over the summer after I decided I could wait no longer/search for the perfect oxford and they took quite a while to finish, which put me off of shoemaking, but the allure of this machine (and my hope that it will make everything easier) is making me want to break out the sketchbook.
This is incredible!
And we ALL want to know, what is the machine called?!
Can’t wait to see the outcome..
Just reading that you are going you are in the progress of making shoes got me excited. Seeing your creations of two of the things that i love Food and Clothes. I can’t wait to see what you come up with Good Luck with learning learning the process.
I am really excited for the results of this new endeavor!
I admittedly have no clue how to use that thing, but I’d certainly love to lend a hand. Do you have a last? A shoe knife? Have you been to Kaufman on Lafayette? And what kind of whiskey are you using?
As a shoe designer I can tell you that learning the machines is the absolute amazing part! I have 3 machines at home and it takes me about 3 weeks to produce one pair with help from my factory in San Mauro Pascoli. While, you will indeed need more tools than you’ve shown, the imagination is there for a reason.Loads of luck + I look forward to seeing the intertwining of imagination, ideas, and reality.
I am not sure if you’re based in NYC, but Kaufman on Lafayette is local shoe designer’s friend. They carry the majority of the tools you’ll need to complete your task. They can also direct you towards some old school cobblers who still have the equipment to properly attach a heel.
love your website, very inspiring. I agree with the comment about menswear, and I’m sure your shoes will be amazing. I was trying to find a similar machine, whats it called/ where I could find one?
again, love the site
Hi dear,
you are a friend of my angela- I feel like I know you
anyhow- thought I would share- I took a shoe design class a year ago in Cincinnati. It was a two day class taught by Sissy Puccio. If you want to take a crash course in making heels, she is a great resource.
I have been really interested in making heels of layered plywood in sculptural forms, and lightweight concrete with reinforcements (the porous kind I keep reading about but have not actually seen).
Just some things to think about.
Keep making Angela work hard, she loves it!

Hey I found your site and I love it. I am also interested in learning to make shoes. What is the name of that machine? What is the cost of it?
what is that name of the machine you purchased? also, what courses did you take and do you think they helped? thanks!
Every machine should have a brake lever.
