Lit
Hey guys, this isn’t a very serious post but I wanted to squeeze it in because I’m very excited about these shoes I hunted down a month ago that I haven’t been able to post until now. I also tried to think up a really “cool” outfit for these but alas, the boring outfit I put together will have to do!

Dark.

Light.

I thought of other ways to shoot this shoe and then finally I just plopped down on my ass and started swinging my lit feet around on a really slow shutter speed. I started scribbling and then I tried to make legible drawings….I can’t believe I caved into them but I …just..couldn’t…resist….Lightbulb Heels? Thomas Edison would be proud of Lagerfeld…Taking one invention and making another..

HAHAHA, I tried to spell “luxirare” in cursive but it didn’t work because the bulb was continuous light and I couldn’t break off letters..but then….

I finally figured out that turning off the bulb would break and make separate letters..so here are some initials of “luxirare” to = LXR

Logo, OKAY, I’m going to stop before I turn into a raver.

I also tried to see what my “walk” looks like. Very controlled…

With every shoe, there is always the “selling point” where that evil dialogue in your head (to buy or not to buy) finally ends. Suddenly you become decisive. For me, this point was when I asked the salesmen if this shoe was a battery operated device…He said yes…I said yes…..Me being a bit intimidated by the whole “fashionable technology” movement that was first started in the nineties, I wondered why I liked this shoe so much. Its actually kind of ugly if you look at it from an aesthetic point of view, it has a super clunky heel and its definitely not the type of shoe that will attract men, but then I thought when have I ever tried and succeeded at trying to attract men? Never..so again another justifiable reason to go ahead with this purchase…
Still it got me thinking about this “fashionable technology” concept and I constantly wonder why someone hasn’t invented a shoe that could become a gigantic heel, and then turn into a flat all with a press of a remote button. You know it would be such a lifesaver for all the girls who walk into bathrooms to change their shoes, and I for one would really appreciate it too…

The bulb also screws off..BUT FOR WHAT?????

What could you possibly do with a dismembered bulb??? Oh I know…

Being one of those girls constantly in a drunken stupor, in a cab, and unable to find my overcharged banking card I could just hack the heel off my shoe and use it as a device to search through my cave like purse! Okay now I was really sold….

Here is the outfit I ended up wearing with it…Very Pallenberg/Soledad Miranda inspired…

Lace Dress and Studded Monkey Fur jacket with nude lining and tulle overlay both by Luxirare. Chanel light bulb heels.

LOVE LOVE LOVE, rad photography & the lace dress!!!!!!
October 4th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Shoes worth caving for. I can’t wait to hear about the entrance you make when you wear them to an event. What is the clear “glass” of the light bulb made of, plexi?
October 4th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Never would guess in a million years that those shoes are by Chanel. Amazing!
And I love the new blog layout. Also the imagefeed is great. So nice to have a daily dose of luxirare
October 4th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
LOVE THEM! Also the bit about searching through your purse… hilarious.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
love the shoes and your commentary on them.

The shoes feel don’t feel quite Chanel but somehow very Largerfeld. How does the light mechanism work? Do the lights turn on whenever the heel touches the ground producing a strobing effect or are they simply switched on/off?
October 4th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Good question! I didn’t address it in my post but if you look closely at one of the images of the bulb itself, you’ll see a very little switch. So yes, it switches on and off….I remember as a kid I’d wear the “LA LIGHT” sneakers and it would light up when it touched the ground but with these you have to turn them on…haha.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Hey, just wondering, but how old are you? Still in twenties? When the face is blurred out I’m always so quick to think of you as being so young, nineteen or twenty-one.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Oh Em Gee!!! I saw those on a post by some blogger, it’s was than that I saw how cool those were. But now I know how practical they really are. I definitely can’t afford those but I shall sit and stare.
Also what happens when the battery dies? I’m really curious to see how one would change that battery.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Its easily replaceable with another one. This was why I asked him if it was battery operated..because I know I’d be able to change them, hence the shoes can continue to give off light. Its really easy, actually in one of my pictures it shows how the battery comes out.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
I REALLY love those shoes. Not in a fashionable way, but in a technological “how can I dissect this thing and change it” way. Out of curiousity, can you change to light bulb’s colors and what not?
October 4th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
love those…even though you’re right. they’re totally ugly. But think about going out wearing light bulb heels- IMPOSSIBLE to have a bad time. because you’d be the girl wearing the fucking disco light bulb heels!! Although I am not quite sure if drunken stupors and breakable glass heels combine very well. Is the glass thick at least?
personally, i’d love to own the chanel runway heels with the gun on the heel.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
No its actually some sort of SUPER thick plexi glass, its not “glass” that you see on a typical bulb at all, its also not hollow, the plastic or plexi is so thick that it protects the little light from inside all the way to the outside. Thats why the heels are so heavy..
I love the gun heels too but I could not find those anywhere.
October 5th, 2009 at 12:01 am
That lace dress is gorgeous. Absolutely sublime. Did you go to fashion school or teach yourself sewing? Either way I would buy your clothing.
October 5th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Amazing shoes!
October 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I fell head over heels in love with them when I first saw them in Oz Vogue last year…but relegated them to the ‘urban myth’ section, like the Chanel gun heels. I can’t believe you ended up finding them. Congratulations! They look gorgeous and I can’t think of a better blogger to pull them off than you.
October 5th, 2009 at 1:10 am
Ahha these shoes are great… what a weird but awesome idea. Very pretty with the outfit too… pretty doesn’t seem to be your usual style but looks amazing nonetheless! I even love the monkey fur jacket… you’re really changing my taste in clothes!!
October 5th, 2009 at 1:34 am
wow. those shoes are amazing. i don’t think i’d ever want to take them off. how long does the battery last? is it just standard AA batteries? also i LOVE your studded monkey fur jacket. your creations are truely inspiring.
October 5th, 2009 at 1:35 am
i’m sorry but how is this a boring outfit
October 5th, 2009 at 2:08 am
love this!
can kind of recognize your gorg face.
show us more!
thanks for this,
xx
October 5th, 2009 at 3:12 am
They were made for you.
Wouldn’t want to walk in the rain though . . . elecrocute?
October 5th, 2009 at 3:33 am
I agree with one of the other comments, very un-Chanel but very Lagerfeld!
Never seen it before, which season was it from?
It looks amazing. Who would have thought Chanel would have a kitschy night party shoe!
I love the walking pictures, I think it would be incredible to see what light patterns would come from doing different types of dances.
October 5th, 2009 at 3:34 am
(I see your doggie makes a camouflaged appearance! Hah!)
October 5th, 2009 at 4:18 am
Awesome shoes.
xx
October 5th, 2009 at 4:22 am
I’m really in love with your monkey fur coat……
will you ever start selling certain items that you create? The coat for example?
October 5th, 2009 at 6:53 am
Love the shoes. I remember when I first saw those and although they aren’t the most attractive face on the lightbulb more than makes up for that fact. Seriously wicked cool and they have to be great party shoes. Talk about a statement.
I have to say I’m digging the dress as well. I’m such a sucker for lace~
October 5th, 2009 at 7:23 am
I actually really like the lace dress paired with the monkey coat and the shoes. May not be one of your “coolest” but I like it more for its subdued chic-ness. I think this is my fav outfit thus far (if that means anything to you)- haha).
I use my cell phone as a light into my purse in cabs late when I’m out; however, if I owned those shoes, I’m sure that would change.
October 5th, 2009 at 8:11 am
This would work, except I have an IPHONE and those give off very little light…
October 5th, 2009 at 10:59 am
the shoes are just so fun and quirky. the bulb just doesn’t look like its workable, but it is.
imagine having to hitchhike one unfortunate night. these shoes will attract cars in no time.
but what happens if you accidentally break a bulb? do they direct you to a particular hardware store? (please excuse my failed attempt at being funny)
October 5th, 2009 at 11:31 am
if everyone who bought a pair of these shoes made art with them, the world would be a better place. congratulations on your contribution.
October 5th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Only a handful of people can pull this off, and you make it seem effortless!
October 5th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
haha the bulb is so dense it doesnt break. Its not hollow. I know it “looks” hollow but its really thick glass that is filled until the led light portion, there is no way for it to break unless you throw it off a 100 floor balcony.
October 5th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
aw thanks. I am the most picky dresser. Not effortless at all, if it looks effortless then it only “looks” it. Either my outfit has to be “perfect” or..All black; black tee and black jeans and black shoes. So boring.
I vacillate between two extremes
October 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
i really love your dress here. if u dont mind sharing, where did u go to school or learn how to sew/create all these wondeful clothes? oh how id love it if one day some o these things would be available for purchase, but then it must be so satisfying to create n havr these things all for yourself=)
October 5th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
LOVE ITTTT !!!
October 5th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Parsons School of Design, but actually all the sewing I know was taught to me by my mother–NOT from school.. She is the master of all masters in terms of technique and finishing. Its actually not satisfying wearing my own clothes, because you had so much to do with the process of making it that it becomes too “close” to you. Does that make sense? I like to wear other designer’s things because I don’t necessarily know what went on during the process of making it, where the idea originated from etc. With my clothes, I know everything that went into it so its much less exciting.
October 5th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
This is too awesome =D
When I first saw the brand, I couldn’t really believe that Chanel would come up with such a shoe, but nonetheless, kudos to Lagerfield! Loving the dress by the way..the way you photograph makes everything look so professional!
October 5th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
WOW lightpainting w/ Chanel heels. That’s hot.
October 5th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
I guess this means that you didnt have those shoes that light up as you walk when you were a kid. The idea is wonderful and the shoes look whack, but I’m not sure of the practicality, but then again practicality usually comes last when impulse shopping.
October 5th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
MARRY MEEEEEEEEEEE.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:46 am
Wow! This is sure great, I can’t believe that the light bulb actually works. You could wear them at night time out. Great Blog
http://kimberleylovesfashion.blogspot.com/
October 6th, 2009 at 4:21 am
maybe when you take the photographs you could do each letter in a separate take and then overlay them in photoshop?
but they are extremely cool and I am very jealous.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:46 am
Love.
October 6th, 2009 at 7:47 am
The shoes chanel are amazing! Where can i found them?
October 6th, 2009 at 7:53 am
At a Chanel Store? Not sure what other dept store carries them…
October 6th, 2009 at 8:02 am
INSANE! would love to be able to own them, especially if they came in an ankle boot
October 6th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
I completely LOVE the sentiment of “definitely not the type of shoe that will attract men”, which is how I often refer to most garments in my closet. And these thoughts pass though my head, I usually end up laughing out loud because what is more soul-satisfying than the perfect shoe?

October 6th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
first off.. that outfit is sooo not boring! suitiable for everyday? yes. boring? absolutley not!
secondly… how incredibley handy are these shoes?! i think i need a pair of light bulb shoes so that i too may easily find things in the endless abyss that is my daily handbag.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
never saw these shoes anywhere else…! in total awe. i am anxious to see your collection.
monkey fur? hmmm. i’ve been throwing out a lot of things to keep only one rack and in the market for quality wearable and versatile pieces. will be writing you about that. trip to nyc is forever delayed
October 6th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Same here. Everything in my closet screams “don’t go near this girl!”
Oh well, its for the love of clothes I guess.
October 6th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
i think it’s really cool how you actually respond to people’s comments. the really popular bloggers out there rarely take the time to respond with helpful information. just another reason why you are the coolest.
ps. are you on bloglovin? i don’t see a link?!
October 6th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
The really popular bloggers, ah yes, I am not one of them but I understand why they might not respond. The more popular you get it seems people try to rip apart everything you say even more, and so I think they fear responding to some people because they don’t want to add more complication or drama..just an assumption. Its hard for me to respond to everyone, even though I’d like to, but thanks for noticing leesh!
October 6th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
haha robyn, well actually “boring” is not such a dirty word in my daily life. This outfit IS, as you said, suitable for everyday, which is precisely why I paired it with these nutso shoes..haha.
The shoes are so gimmicky I can’t even take it but its exactly the type of thing I am attracted to.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Tricky question, I like how things can be unavailable, everything seems too available. But yes, If I ever did, it would be in small dosages, and instead of collections, I’d sell piece by piece whenever I feel like it.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
The things I try to create for my blog is something I can control, I want them to be “close to perfect” but my face is definitely not perfect and would rather not share it. Trust me I am no Sharon Tate.
October 6th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
AAAH CHANEL. Damn them and their bank account draining ridiculously awesome shoes! My gun heels are at the top of my favorites!
ps. if you really don’t like wearing your own self-made clothes, you should send them all to me, or just the muslin ruffle long coat! wheeee! xo crazy girl.
October 6th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
The shoes are so good for someone like you, since you love things that are hard to get and “rare”. Cannot wait to see how you turn your blog into a brand. You are the first one to do it from what I can see
October 6th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Those are some sweet shoes! But since when do we care if shoes attract men or not?
October 6th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Well you know there is that whole argument that heels were created because men like to see women in pain. Not sure if this is really true or not, clearly women wear shoes for personal satisfaction (note the super chunky wedge heel style that are not particularly attractive to men), but I’m sure there are always times when “looking a certain way” to the opposite sex does affect us..don’t you think?
October 6th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Ah! The gun heels. I’m afraid you got the most perfect pair of Lagerfeld’s genius. I love the lightbulb ones but the gun ones are so awesome…….Perfect for you.
October 6th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Your blog, wich I prefer to call them “your web”, is by far the best of all others fashion blogs that I know (and trust me, I invert a lot of time in research).
I am saying this with the proper fundamentals:
*. You have sense of style, and that is not easy to have or find.
*. I can tell you love art because you are doing it.
*. The details: the whole page, posts, photos, outfits, food, cookware, packaging.
Everything here is carefully and meticulously thought.
*. Anonymity, the fact that not show your face, this gives even more impact on things you do and samples.
*. Even not knowing you I have to say that you are beyond “cool”, you are a smart girl and very talented who knows -at least here- how to express.
*. You are humble to your readers, recently I read that someone says to you that you actually respond the comments that your readers do and that’s is special. Not all the bloggers do that, not all the “famous” bloggers take their time to read the comments or even answer it.
I can make an endless list of why I think your blog is better than many others but my intention is to wish you nothing but all the things that you are going to achieve, because if there are people out there who recognize talent, you are going to get very far -absolutly no doubt of this!-
Keep doing what you do best and keep doing better every time, enjoy it and be really proud of you.
Kisses,
Cecilia.
pd: like someone said “I can not wait to see your own brand on the market” (me neither!)
pd2: your new page is absolutly graphic design, clean and well executed.
pd3: see! I told you, I can make an endless comment about you
October 7th, 2009 at 1:30 am
MY GOD! this is stunning!
October 7th, 2009 at 5:52 am
I love the new look to your site!
curious though, how did you find this gem of a shoe? on ebay?
October 7th, 2009 at 7:43 am
A great score! i dont have luck like yours when hunting down items from previous seasons;( my bank will thank me for that!
yes yes Edison will be soooo proud of Lagerfield!! an inventor of the 21st Century!

October 7th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
From what I could already see your face looks gorgeous! So if those Tate concerns are the only problem on why we can’t see your face, then please drop it!
Really… lightning art by Chanel, that’s incredible!
October 7th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
luxirare lightbulb yay
October 7th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
I think that idea about heels being invented to see women in pain is bunk considering men were wearing them way back when right along with us!
How it should be?
October 8th, 2009 at 12:44 am

So futuristic & they look so fragile. I wonder if they make some sort of weigh limit for those heels.
October 16th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I’m equally in love with the shoes and the photography! Gorgeous.
I can’t believe you got these Fall 08 runway shoes at a Chanel store! Do you have a contact there or something? Or did you break into their archives? ha. I’ve had no luck finding runway shoes from previous seasons… : (

You take blogging to the next level. Some people don’t do it seriously, and that just means I won’t read their blog. You are campy and iconic.
October 17th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
I really love these–The glass on them is solid through? With just screw threads and a tube for the LED? I’m curious. For the most part the ‘clothes that light up!’ thing falls into dangerous, halloween-sweater-with-glowing-LED-eyes territory, but these are surprisingly effective.
October 18th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Campy..now that’s a first..I don’t see how this blog is campy..but thank you for the encouragement!
October 18th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Funny you should say that’s a first…so many of the movies you reference are campy, not to mention your love for Chanel, platforms, Monkey fur and Michael Jackson
October 19th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
You’re clearly wonderful with your new lovely shoes- but yes, you really do remind me of Soledad Miranda. You are both very beautiful and mysterious. I love the little black mesh number she wore in Eugenie- she always looked fantastic.
xo

Agreed with the bit about her mesh number in Eugenie..She did always look stunning, even with minimal makeup.

I was so engrossed by this post my milk boiled over. Anyway, I am more intrigued by the battery-changing aspect than the design of the shoes. It really tickles me because there aren’t that many equipment I own that requires battery changing anymore. More often it’s battery charging. It led me to wonder about what items non-rechargeable batteries can be applied to for preserving their use. And oh, love the dress.
