Illustrations

I’ve seen a ton of fashion illustrations but my favorite fashion illustrator would have to be Christian Lacroix. These drawings were done in photoshop/illustrator or some kind of digital medium.

Next to Lacroix, another favorite would be drawings by Aitor Throup. Which one do you guys prefer? The tight, detailed lines of Throup or the more loose, stylized, gestural lines by Lacroix? Both drawings scanned from Christian Lacroix on Fashion and Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers

They are both entrancing but I have a real soft spot for Aitor Throup’s work. I love how his comic book characters evolve in to fashion pieces through moulding and sculptural processes.

I feel Lacroix’s drawing is more about the artistic side than the actual design.
And as i tend to always lean towards clean and detailed than loose and highly expressive, for illustrations i would lean more towards Throup (my design illustration style is VERY similar to his, so this might be why as well)
I feel the detail shown in the Throup drawings really allows you to feel the garment aesthetically..
ps. i think you need to post some of your shown sketches, ever since the monkey fur coat sketch ive been itching for more.
I love seeing the way designers think and express their thoughts on paper.
fucking breathless as always,

Christian Lacroix’s sketches are my favourite! I used to spend hours on his website just looking at all his sketches…. seriously

thats a tough one. both so different but i will go with Throup’s on this one. maybe it reminds me of soliders i played with as a kid of i use adore the technical side of it. this doesn’t take anything away from Lacroix’s imagination and whimsical quality.

Oh my, I love the drawings. This is a part of fashion that is not shown enough!!!

I want to paper my walls in those Lacroix drawings, they are amazing. But the Throup drawings I could stare at for hours. I’ll have both, please!

In general I prefer tighter lines, probably because I’m a manga girl myself. But Lacroix’s illustrations are gorgeous, and comparing both of these artists is, imo, is so hard to do, since they are so different! I do like the way Throup’s are so analytical, and yet creative, full of movement, but I just love Lacroix’s pink cheeks and thinking-out-loud kinds of dresses! Hard to decide lkfjdsalfda;
Thanks so much for scanning!

Wauw, I really love Christian Lacroix’s illustrations!
Does he have an art book or something? I would definitetly buy it and look at it all day!

as an abstract artist myself, i have a slight preference for Lacroix’s loose and fluid work…but i very much appreciate the sense of form exhibited in the sketches of Throup; it’s obvious he knows the figure quite well.

Agree, in many ways throup’s drawings are very anatomical. They remind me of the figure drawings we had to do in “drawing” class our freshman year of college where we had to point out the musculature of the human form.

I’m a big fan of comics and manga so Throup’s illustrations instantly appeal to me. I can imagine what kind of world these characters might live in and what sort of lives they lead. I also really appreciate the different angles and movement of the body because it takes a lot of practice to be comfortable with drawing the body contorted in different ways. I especially love the two jumping drawings in the last photo!

I’d say lacroix since he protrays a feeling much more than Throup. I do like both a lot.

Lacroix

i’m almost always lean towards abstract illustration. that being said, i prefer lacroix, particularly the second and fourth set of images you posted.

i like both, very different.
but the lacroix are just beautiful!

Oh goodness, I want to print these out and hang them!
by the way, you are getting excellent publicity. Just spotted a shout out to Luxirare in Lucky magazine.

Going with Lacroix… one of my favorite books is his Diary of a Collection with all the very quick drawings. The ones you posted are true art though.

The Lacroix sketches are stunning, love them.

Its so wonderful to see two truly excellent illustrators. 90% of fashion illustration is garbage in my opinion. Its unfortunate that people like Danny Roberts get constant praise when Christian Lacroix nearly loses his business. So inspiring to see such great pieces, it makes me strive to work harder at my own work!

i must say that i can not possibly pick a favourite….both designers reflect their aesthetic ethos through their illustrations….seriously i love them both!

both are fantastic, but if i had to choose i would go with lacroix. no one does color like lacroix, and the way he presents color makes the sketches even more visually appealing. for me, i think the color plays a big part when it comes to his sketches – i feel like i’m looking at something more than a drawing.
