SO GOOD. I’m into all of it and I want those Versace shoes…fav shoe of the season that hasn’t gotten enough playtime.

  2. Sputnik Sweetheart

love all the mix of prints & colors!

  3. sharon

i love this juxtaposition..didn’t even notice at first

  4. Natalie / Fashion Intel

Crystal Renn looks sooooooooooo hot. Dear Fashion Magazines, please more models like this.

  5. Arabelle

diggin that she actually has some legs on her

  6. Chelsea

Huh. Interesting. Crystal Renn rocks my world but there’s something about this shoot that bothers me. I can’t quite put my finger on it yet.

  7. VeggieGirl

    Love all the fun patterns!

  8. Denise

I don’t really consider Crystal that plus-size… she looks healthy though!

  9. Joy

I like seeing healthy models juxtaposed next to the skinny.

  10. zanita

Crystal actually looks so perfect – powerful and feminine. I think she makes Jacquelyn look like a child.

i fucking love crystal renn. i don’t like how they put her next to a waif model though. it makes her look like, “hey look, my thighs are larger than hers.” crystal’s face is so much stronger than the other model’s.

  12. MadeleineLouise

Shes not even that skinny in the skinny side of the image.

  13. Kasi

Crystal Renn looks better in this shoot. She probably looks better in anything because she’s so god damn pretty. Her poses are ~fiercer~.

  14. Kasi

Also, I really want those socks.

  15. luxirare

I think so too, but mostly I think they both look great. I like that they are wearing the same outfits cause it tells me you don’t have to be size 0 to wear these clothes, you can still be a size 16 or whatever size Renn is, and look just as hot or even hotter than the actual model-ly chick.

  16. E

I’m sorry, but there is no way that Crystal Renn is a 16!! She looks like an 8 or 10, max! If you look at the two girls’ waists they are not *that* different.
Plus size models are supposed to represent size 12-16, but actually most of the girls are a 6 or 8 so their arms and legs don’t look fat (!) and then they pad their midsections. Even that gives women something they can’t aspire to! Ridiculous.

  17. Jocqulene

at first i didn’t notice the difference! which i think is a good thing. wow, they both look great. i might even like the curvier girl better. she looks like she’s an 6 or 8, not a 16 like you commented (i’m not very good with sizes so i could be way off). either way, love this.

  18. luxirare

yea I mean as I commented ” size 16 or whatever size she is” I meant to say I’m not entirely sure what size she really is, that is just what people have said. It is definitely possible she is not. Either way she looks good.

  19. Emma

Apparently she is a US 12 or a UK 14. She’s pretty tall so I guess it’s possible. She does look gorgeous and much more interesting than the other model, I think.

  20. Emma

Oops UK 16 not 14, must be where the ‘16′ came from

I think maybe the point of this shoot, and what I’m taking away from it, is to show how the (very graphic) clothes look on different planes.

I’m not going to say one model ‘isn’t real’ or ‘child-like’ because the left certainly looks healthy.. that probably is her ~natural~ body type, just as Crystal’s is. There are many different body types, I don’t agree with bashing either, so long as it is genetically predisposed and not at medical risk.

I do agree a more natural approach should be taken towards the size of models, but I think there is a time and a place. This shoot was interesting to look at and gave me a different perspective on the clothes, but from a practical “use-larger-models-in-fashion” view I think Crystal looks vulgar. These clothes are not at all appropriate for her body type, there are plenty of other clothes that look BETTER on a fuller figure rather than a slimmer one.

I think everyone should just make the best of what they have..

  22. luxirare

I love the shoot I think its fantastic. They both look great in the clothes

  23. grace

I’ve beent thinking about this editorial ever since you posted it.
My eye was immediately drawn to the bigger girl and I didnt even notice her size until I compared the two. Despite being a US 6, I do think clothes hang better on skinnier frames but I think these photos kind of nullify that argument because the girl on the right really sells it for me. I really would love to see more average sized women in editorials. Not just because of “discrimination” but for the sake of variety too!

  24. The Raisin Girl

I love the clothes, and at first glance I like the idea, but then I think to myself, “What is wrong with the world?” Size 12 is not plus sized. If you’re a size 12, you probably can’t even shop at a plus sized store. Size 12 is perfectly normal, especially if you’re a tall woman. I’m really disliking the way fashion caters to a ridiculously thin model that isn’t normal or healthy for most women, and makes anything larger than that into “plus.” My boyfriend’s baby sister is exceptionally tall for her age, and her mother’s having to fret about needing to buy her daughter plus sized clothes and what that will do to her self esteem. This should not be happening to a nine-year-old, and it’s the size standards in fashion that do it. I’m sorry. I really like the photos and the model is beautiful, it just upsets me that such an obviously normal woman should be labelled plus.

  25. Katherine

I had to come back and add..
I do agree they both look good in the clothes.
When I look at the left model I see fashion.
When I look at Crystal I see ‘SEX’.

I think I view it the same as women with large breasts for example. It is hot, but showing soo much is vulgar. Crystal has mad thigh going on and no doubt it is great to look at.. not to mention her attitude. But if I were to see a woman like Crystal in real life wearing these outfits I would see it as vulgar.. I’d find her a LOT more appealing in something slinky but covered up.

  26. nicki

these images are still unrealistic. Both these girls have no cellulite or lumps and bumps. In poses like that it is likely that there would be bulged over the belt, but on both girls everything is so smooth. These photos have been photoshopped to hide all that natural, yet unattractive stuff, which isn’t really doing much to improve any body issues.

  27. Sue in Canada

Much prefer Crystal….she looks healthy and fierce!!!

  28. Miss Kathy

At first I thought it was the same model but ’shopped. MY boyfriend observed that one can actually see more of the clothes on the model on the right.

  29. luxirare

    A clever observation.

  30. aine

I know im coming to this conversation very late but i just can never resist adding my two cents on plus size modelling. I agree with katherine, crystal’s poses are all screaming SEX. I mean look at the last pose she’s pushing up her skirt, looking to the side with her mouth open, its just such a submissive pose. It makes me quite angry that whenever plus size models are used in editorials they’re normally overly sexualised or they’re posing naked. I have no problem with nude shoots they can be quite positive but i just wish p.s models were used for some more actual clothes modelling. That aside i really like this editorial, its quite clever and both models look beautiful. I want all the socks and shoes

  31. marie

As people commented, Crystal does scream “SEX” in a big way. Its because of her curves, her womanliness that we make this connection. The other model doesn’t have the same effect on us, because we associate her figure with a more childlike one.
I think this is the reason why the fashion industry uses models such as the one on the right, you are less likely to be distracted by the actual model when the sexuality is diminished because there are less ‘womanly’ curves, less flesh. Not saying that ‘usual’ models aren’t womanly – but the traditional associations aren’t there. She becomes like a clothes hanger and It’s easier to sell clothes this way, we don’t look at the actual figure so much, we look at the clothes supposedly objectively and decide. The problem is, we then start to associate the clothes with a body type. FOr this reason I think that this editorial is actually really beneficial, it gets people to see that you can wear fun clothes no matter who you are or what size you are..
