Grid
My favorite structure is anything gridded. Don’t really know why, My Favorite Fabric: Gridded Organza.

After some careful consideration I decided these boots will stay with me. I don’t have a problem with letting material possessions go, so I’m kind of perplexed by my inability to release these shoes.

Grid necklace.

Vionnet Grid dress. Photo from my MADELEINE VIONNET book.

From the same book… Okay not completely sure here but I *think* this dress was made out of one piece of fabric, its constructed by stitching vertical seams and horizontal pleats…insane.

I’d like to see the pattern for that dress.. very intriguing construction. Painful to think about, really.
I can see why it would be hard to let go of those shoes. Grid patterns are so interesting on fabrics. x
I kind of associate you with those shoes somehow…
The fact that everything is in caps makes me sound like I’m shouting.
They have grid tights exactly like this at American Apparel.
FANTASTIC.
your site is amazing!!! I love your photography.
Good decision!
Personally I think that the word “iconic” is too loosely used these days – but those YSL shoes might earn it. My only problem with those is their instant recognizability – but even that fades (at least among the teenagers populating the style gallery sites, haha)… …and one day you own a precious piece of design history.
oh yes i totally see this grid love, esp. last picture, of a gorgeous woman in this dress is lovely
@joanna i know she is stunning..
This is Madeleine Vionnet on the last picture – and one great picture with a great dress! I don’t remember well but based on what I saw from an exhibition of her work, I’d say this dress comes from a single piece of fabric. Such a genius… no wonder why she inspires so much designers!
And the boots are just, well, exquisite! No wonder why you can’t get rid of them.
Thanks again for your great posts here, it’s always a great pleasure to come here!
That grid necklace is simply fantastic!

wow, what a perfectly beautiful dress.
I love your site! Your photographs are always beautiful. What camera(s) do you use? You make a girl scout cookie look pretty. Also, your packaging for items, such as your bags, tape, velvet ribbon (pyramid boxes), cups for your coffee post, where do you get these made? Do you get them made specifically for your posts? Like your crayon box and I can’t think of anything else. You get what I’m saying.
Thank you for your wonderful site!
vionnet was a genius! love that dress. unfortunately i don’t own the vionnet book, but i’ve seen some similarly insane ones in harold koda’s haute couture and taschen’s fashion. like the one where similar tucks form a honeycomb pattern. amazing! and many of her pieces were mostly hand-stiched, just like most haute couture pieces.
szucs
If you do end up changing your mind and want to give the shoes to someone who will take good care of them and even pay, just let me know
you make me love grids…
if only i were better at math now.
@Linda hahahahahhahah
Grids are just so proper. Its like everything starts to make sense once its in a grid.
Oh yes, the grids are really interesting. The shoes appeal to me a lot!
i would be reluctant to let any of those pieces go!! i never get tired of seeing the ysl boots, lovely
