10 minute meal
Although I DO like to torture myself (figuring out complicated recipes or cooking something that has WAY too many steps) sometimes I find there is just NOT enough time in the day. It’ll be around 5-6 pm and I SUDDENLY realize I haven’t eaten anything except a piece of toast! Not cause I’m trying to starve myself but because some days I can’t even be bothered to eat! And a lot of times I can’t be bothered to call and wait for delivery, other times if I do decide to do delivery I can’t even be bothered to choose WHAT it is I’m going to eat! Its good to have ready-made meals that aren’t disturbingly gross (thank you Trader Joe’s for existing) in your fridge so you don’t have to call, wait, or decide… These steamer clams are perfect if you want Linguine with Clams or just steamed clams. If you thought you couldn’t beat Rachel Ray in under 30 minutes, well you really can with these! ha. It excretes lots of liquid so that part is great for bread dipping. Add some white wine into your pot while steaming to add extra flavor…

Holy shit, trader joes has this? It’s being bought by me, dude, here I come. Linguine and clams is one of my favorite dishes.. its what I like to get in italian restaurants…
There is this place called Cucina di Pesce on 4th st between 2nd and 3rd that has unbelievable linguine and clams, which i got with Black linguine (which they make in-house)… it’ll only cost you 11 fucking dollars too.

Wow, how I wish we had that here!!! I do have ‘emergency food’ occasionally in my freezer/pantry for such occasions(Ikea meatballs or frozen dumplings), but clams are much nicer!
xx

My friend forced this onto me the other day, it was SO DELICIOUS. I couldn’t believe it.

The simplicity! The low calories! That looks delicious.
If you don’t mind me asking, did you add anything else to the pasta? Or are the clams/clam juice enough? Thanks!!

:O that’s not where you were told to poke the knife hole!
luxirare, you rebel.

You could add extra butter (always a good thing) and white wine to the actual clam sauce!
Wait a bit so the clam juice cooks off.

I haven’t tried the Steamer Clams yet, but the Chicken Tikka Masala from Trader Joe’s definitely counts as one of my favorite “emergency meals,” especially during those times when I don’t even have the energy to chop an onion. However, I always cook some extra white rice, unless I’m lucky and already have some sitting in the fridge, because what comes in the box is usually never enough for all that delicious sauce.
Lovely, lovely, minimal arrangement.

god i love trader joe’s. their frozen garlic fries are going to kill me someday.

Thank god for Trader Joe’s, Trader Giotto’s, Trader Ming’s, they all help us eat gourmet when your young and broke!
My favorite throw together is their frozen shrimp, Alfredo sauce, angel hair pasta, and a spoonful of the basil pesto. Doctored up with lots of cracked black pepper and garlic of course!
December 8th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
you know it! I would throw in hot chili peppers instead of pepper but you know I’m just weird, love extra heat.
December 8th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
What do you suggest to substitute the white wine?
Would love to try this at home.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
it used it be that the fridge was “mine” and the freezer was my roommate’s…since typically i can’t tolerate frozen prepared meals and that’s all she eats. then i discovered trader joe’s frozen gyoza!! now a little part of the freezer belongs to me.

LOL @ ‘if you thought you couldn’t beat rachel ray’s 30 min meals’
This looks spectacular
Before I read this post I would never have considered clams as part of a 10 minute meal. -change of food perspective!-

Dearest Luxirare…. I obsess over your amazing foodie-wizardry. I love when my RSS feed tells me that you have posted something new. Also, I happen to work at TJ’s here in Chicago, so I’m finally breaking my comment cherry on your blog…. hehe, love to know that you are a TJ fan and love love love your blog like whoa! Keep it coming! Also, what type of cam do you use for your pics? One of these days (or so I keep saying) I would like to make a food-oriented blog and your pics are top-notch.
xoxoxox….

dude…i made this last night and i almost died from happiness. thanks for the suggestion. also, while i was at TJ’s i saw that they carried rice balls and it reminded me of the post you did on the asian market you went to in queens with the live crabs and whatnot. i picked those up too and ate them as suggested on the package with pickled ginger, wasabi and soy. it was good but didn’t blow me away. any suggestions?
