Apotheke NYC

This bar is very unassuming, no transparent glass windows to peek inside a slick back lit bar interior..the signage on the restaurant says “gold flower restaurant”. I went while waiting for a movie (inception) because the normal show times were sold out, the cocktails were delicious.

Front window of the bar is completely blocked out with rows and rows of jars.

While the outside may look like a take-out joint this is what you’re greeted with on the inside.

It’s so dark inside, and these were some of the light sources permeating the space, each lamp is filled with a leaf with what seems to be water.

The bar is called “APOTHEKE”, jars have a medicinal design and feel.

As soon as I saw this Cilantro cocktail I had to get it. Cilantro = my favorite!

This bar is so beautiful. Loved these photos. Was it deserted?
@Alexandra yes it was, I was glad it was because I got to take so many pics, besides I was at the bar way too early- was only there to kill time before a movie.
Love the lighting!
Your photography amazes me every time! I think the lighting is fabulous. xx
Love when you post about NYC! I was just there for vacation and I checked out most of the spots you talked about! Wish I got to see this one
Doughnut Plant is amazing though.
no need to advertise the bar.. place speaks for itself. absolutely amazing. im also cilantro obsessed.. definitely checking this out.
by the way, how was inception? ive yet to hear one bad thing about it..
xx
I LOVE that place. We should go sometime!
@chelsea OMG so glad you know about it we’re going aSAP
i love when places really commit to a feeling. this makes me want to learn to make complicated and over the top cocktails and dress like a lady. lovely.
the shabby and slightly intimidating exterior would mean that i may never go inside somewhere like this. I definitely need to change my outlook, that bar and the appearance is incredible, peculiar yet beautiful. ineresting cocktails too
amazing, the atmosphere is brilliant.
apotheke in greek means warehouse .. quite appropriate i guess!!
Awesome decor!
The photos are awesome, so dark, so mysterious…
The restaurant looks so cool!
amazing. feels like the moments before a crime scene.
Wow this bar looks just incredible!

I love it, it really reminds me of something but I can’t put my finger in it. Lynch meets Perfume maybe? dunno, but looks really intriguing. is Inception really all that? I’m hoping to see it this week.
Oh wow! Wicked little bar…how did you know to go in though?
It just looks like an old chinese restaurant that’s closed. I wouldn’t have even thought to go in there!
What an amazing place, escapism at it’s best! I’d love to go and see all the wonderful potions they make!
great pictures, the place looks incredible! … loving the alcohol apothecary bottles

apotheke in greek means warehouse .. quite appropriate i guess!!
And in German it means pharmacy, which fits very well. too. Although I agree, the origin of the word is Greek of course
@Lea yea I think pharmacy was what the bar was going for in terms of translation…the bar definitely has a medicinal vibe to it.
Hayhay!
How are you? Your blog is great and I love your style! I’m glad that I’ve visited yours.

This place is amazing. my friend plays live jazz here every Monday night. Ch-ch-check it out!

These pics of the bar are film noir romantic, the bar has a neo victorian vibe which is quite interesting. Very beautiful post.
I love the “Smoking Jacket”. Too bad one drink costs so damn much. Have you ever checked out Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurant Aquavit uptown? They serve amazing home made aquavit by the shot and when you enter the bar each variety is steeping in lingonberries, anise, dill, etc. Its beautiful. And don’t you dare go back to apotheke with Chelsea without me!
@Jackson- I want to try the smoking jacket so badly! I will have to check out aquavit soon.
It is good to be here (and look).
Just a bit confusing trying to decide, if one has landed in a Museum or an inviting Restaurant.
Either way, one wants not just to intake, but devour.
An educated devourment, of course.
@ Lea
Apotheke is the German word for Pharmacy and as far as I remember, the Bartender is Austrian.
absolutely loving your blog keep it up cos i’m following now
this bar looks so intruiging, if i ever make it over to nyc will hunt it down
check me out whatkatiedidblogs.blogspot.com
this is one of my favorite bars in the city. their cocktail list is superb.
Just came across this site looking up Apotheke. I’ve been here before for a birthday party. Though tiny, it’s an amazing space. Your photos are AMAZING, definitely bookmarking this.

These photographs look really great! Love the jars in the window, has a ‘rustic’ feel to it!
great bar but too much attitude at the door. All the door men were rude and extremely obnoxious. They allowed me to get in, but deny so many other patrons that were before me last night. They were mean and so full of themselves with the customers. I go there often, but it’s really not a nice feeling patronizing an obnoxious bar after seeing how rude they were. Thumb down for Apotheke and double thumbs down for door men.
Skip this bar, people.
I believe it use to be a opium den.
Now abandoned (…saw it on an episode of Housewives of Manhattan.. i know.. kill me!)
